Back Court Violation?

Question
A1 has control of the ball in his front court.  While A1 is dribbling, the ball is deflected by B1.  In an attempt to regain control, A1 touches the ball and in doing so knocks it into the back court.  Is this a back court violation?

Answer
Paul,

In answer to your question, if A1 is the last to touch it in the front court and it goes into the back court and any member of Team A is the first to touch it in the back court, then yes this would be a violation. Think of it the same as a ball going out of bounds, and who the last player to touch it was. If team A is in possession in their front court and is the last team to touch the ball before it goes into the back court, they cannot be the first to touch it in the back court.

Hope that answers your question.
