Appropiate competitive age groups

Question
My daughter is 10 and somewhat new to basketball.  We signed her up for a 5th & 6th grade basketball league.  Because of small numbers they combined that league with a 7th & 8th grade league.  Should a beginning player who is going into 5th grade be playing with and against girls in 8th grade?

Thank you,

Answer
Hi Jeff,

From the experience I have from reffing those ages I would say no. I think there can be big differences in size and skill between those two age groups. However, take note of the word "can".
This is not always the case. It just depends on the level of play for that league. But keep in mind it's always good to play against players that are better than you if you want to get better. Obviously you don't want it to be too much better, because then she won't have fun.

Good Luck.
