Need to Dunk

Question
I am 6'4 well almost 6'5 I guess I am 230lbs I cant dunk anymore. When I was in highschool about 3 years ago at least a one handed dunk was easy I am a little chubby now but does that really have a big effect on my jumping? I am 23 years old now so I am still young and I have time to Improve can you give me some exercises to help jumping whatever it takes. Thank you

Answer
Hello Gerard

If you are chubby enough to mention it as a factor, than I'd guess that either it is or you THINK it is, either of which can hold you back.  How important is it to you to dunk again?  Important enough to let go of the extra weight that might be holding you back?  There's a saying in the auto racing world - "if you want to go faster, get lighter."  Same thing in the jumping world.  Your muscles can only compensate for so much gravity.

Exercises are always good and I'd suggest you ask one of the other experts on this forum for some specific for jumping.  But if you want to dunk, I'd suggest getting to the point where you don't look at yourself as chubby, which could put you back into high school mode where a one-handed dunk was easy.

Good luck and let me know how it goes.
