Inbounds play

Question
Bret,
My understanding (different from most announcers) is that an inbounding player-not after a made basket-does not need to maintain a pivot foot, but must stay within about 3 feet left to right.
Is this still true for all levels of play?
Thanks,
Paul

Answer
Hi Paul.

That is correct. When a player is handed the ball by the official in any situation other than after a made basket, the player has a 3 foot area side to side and forward and backward they are allowed to move in. If they go beyond that, it's an in-bounding violation.
