Answer
Hi David,

I am sorry it took so long to get back to you. I just got back from a tournament and am answering all my questions today, the 4'th of July. Free throws is all about  being repetitive. Do the same thing everytime. Grip the ball the same way, take the same amount of dribbles everytime, the same amount of time everytime.

Technique, every court has a dot or little hole in the middle of the free throw line, this is in direct line of the middle of the basket. I teach to straddle this point so your body is centered to the basket. Other coaches teach to put you shooting hand foot directly behind this point so your shooting hand is directly centered to the basket. Which ever one you are more comfortable with is fine. Now as I wrote before do the same thing everytime, catch the ball from the ref the same way, grip the ball the same way(finger tips with the laces), the same amount of dribbles, and the same amount of time for each free throw. Make sure you keep your elbow tucked in close to the side of your body, when you shoot bend your knees and then when you straighten your legs come up to your toes. When shooting extend you arm up and not out toward the basket and make sure you follow through creating back spin on the ball, when following through leave your hand up in the air for second as this helps you not to short hand your shot. I hope this helps. Good luck!
