Mercury 30HP Engine Troubleshooting: Won't Tick Over & Stalling

we have a mercury 30hp "04", she wont tick over and when running sounds like its going to stall then picks back up again, any ideas or can you direct me to somewhere one line for an answer, many thanks, Steve.

Hi Stephen...Thank you for selecting the undersigned to reply to your question.

I'm not a mechanic, but trouble starting might be caused by contaminated or low octane fuel, faulty/loose spark plugs/wires, etc.

Coughing & sputtering, then regaining power could arise from the above, and from defective carburretion.

There's a marine mechanic with AllExperts, and I suggest you consult him, or a local marine source in your community.
