hand pain/ring finger numbness

Question
I bowled All-Army several years ago and due to an injury had to stop bowling. Now that I'm bowling again, I'm having pain in the top of my hand and numbness on the inside of my ring finger. I've asked a few pro shop owners/operators and have different responses as to the source. I've been told that I'm releasing incorrectly and also that my span is too short. Not sure who to trust or what adjustment to make. I've experienced the hand pain before which was resolved with grip adjustments however the numbness is a new experience. I feel it's the grip but now I'm not sure where to go to fix it. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Don't want to have to quite again.

Answer
Being a ball driller, the first thing I suspect is the fit of the ball.  That will help with the pain.  The numbness is a bit worrisome, but that could be due to the fit as well as a bad fit will place stress on the hand.  This stress can produce swelling that may press on a nerve.
If the span is too short, the edge of the hole can cause pressure that may lead to numbness.
Have the fit checked by a certified pro shop and go from there.  I would expect that will eliminate your problems.

Good luck,
Chip
