drill/layout

Question
QUESTION: i have a bedlam columbia 300 drilled on strong layout 4x4with pin under my ring finger  i am a left handeranyway its doesnt do much  i noticed he didnt drill a counter hole near tumb area  at all  would that keep the ball from hooking

ANSWER: Roy,
Ball reaction is all about utilizing your skills (ball speed, rev rate, tilt and rotation) to control the lane, allowing the ball to skid, hook and roll in the proper zones for the ball to be effective knocking down all the pins.

The Bedlam is very smooth, and for me, gets down the lane very, VERY easy. While the layout sounds like it should be strong, if your speed gets the ball down the lane too far to be effective or the lane is too oily for the current surface preparation, you may need to change the finish. A weight hole can help with the ball dynamics but I suspect you need stronger tires not a stronger engine.

Lastly, how much do you hook other bowling balls on the same shot? What other balls have you rolled? Do you move significantly as the night wears on? Knowing more about you helps with the why the ball does what it does. Knowing what stuff hooks for you and others will help with understanding what you are trying to control on the lane.

Thanks for the question. Let me know more.

QUESTION:  I rolled a totalNV  an then a storm t-road  stand rightof center an go outside 3rd arrow which both had that counter hole?  nver used rolled pinky sounds logical  its been 2yrs since bowel in league maybe to anxious  im recovered cancer patienthad an 182 avg gotta lovit  thanks

Answer
Roy,
The Ebonite Total NV was very smooth, Storm T-Road not so much. You basically stand so that the ball projected outside third arrow should encounter enough friction to encourage the ball to start turning toward the pocket. Either square up and move out (closer to the gutter) or change the ball.

I'd suggest that either adjusting the surface, from 4000 and polish to just 4000Abralon, then trying 2000, will indicate if additional friction will help enough. Try 1000 too, what the heck.

If the friction issue doesn't resolve the situation, the low weight hole you mentioned does improve the dynamics of a ball and adding improved core effect should get you the look you need. The core dynamics of the Bedlam are the weakest of the balls you mentioned. Your speed and/or rev rate may just over power the ball's ability to react enough (or not be enough to get the ball doing hat you need).

Congratulations on beating cancer. Good luck and good bowling.
