QUESTION: Hi, I play Wide Receiver and I wonder if you could give me some tips how to read defensive coverage so I can get open pretty quickly when I'm on the field?

ANSWER: Dear Fabian,

If the defensive back is eyeing you he is in some type of man coverage.

If he is eyeing the quarterback he is a zone coverage.

If he is line-up outside you he is in a zone coverage.

If he is line-up inside you he is in a man coverage.

If he is line-up in a low focus position he is in a man coverage. And there is a good chance they are going to blitz the quarterback.

If he is standing tall he is in a zone coverage.

If the defensive back is line-up inside you and looking at the quarterback he is going to blitz. You will need to look for the football as soon as you leave the line of scrimmage to give your quarterback a quick target to hit.
