Want to play football for a team

Question
I played football as a kid in elementary school for a year but only really played street football and in high school I  wrestled for 3 years. I am 19 turning 20 years old and I want to really play for a team. I know the fundamentals of the game and I am quick and agile. How do I go about joining a team and actually playing for a team and do you think it is possible for me to get recruited even if I did not play in High School? I live in North New Jersey and I am not sure if a coach will even try me out being that I haven't played for a team in my previous years.

I will tell you what I tell everybody. The first thing you need to do is to get into football shape. Next, find out if you are eligible to play college football. If you are, have a talk with the head football coach and ask him for his help.

If you are not, you might want to give one of the semi-professional football teams a try. I feel that I must warn you these guys play rough so they should be your last choice (for playing football) and not your first. And if all else fails, do what I did, give coaching a try. Let me know if you are interested in coaching football and I will get you started.
