female lineman

Question
Im a girl in my high school football team. I'm a
lineman and am really good at it but my coaches will
hardly ever let me play in a game. Is there anyway to
prove to them that I can handle the other teams
linebackers. I practice hard and work hard in lifting,
and i always stay to work in anything I need to work
on.

Answer
Dear Viktory,
Football has traditionally been a mans sports. It is very difficult for some people to accept that the times are changing and that they need to change as well.  Being a girl in a mans sport is always an up hill battle but I hope you do not give up.

I had a similar situation just a few years ago on a team that was coaching.

We had a girl that wanted to play on the line. She was one of the toughest players on that team. No matter how tough the workout got she never complained. Which is more than I can say for some of the guys on that team? During that season, she was awarded a lot of playing time on the junior varsity level. I left the team later that year so I do not know if she ever got to play on the varsity level. However, I can tell you this, she earned my respect. There was nobody tougher or more dedicated on that team than her.

I do not know your coach so I am not going to judge him. For all I know he might have a good reason for not playing you on game day.

He is trying to keep you from getting hurt.
He does not think you are ready to play at that level.
The guy listed ahead of you, on the team depth chart, is simply a better player.

Your coach wants a more experience player at that position.

The list can go on and on with good reasons for not playing you. My advice to you is to keep working hard and to not give up. You are opening up the door, for other girls, who love the sport of football as much as you do.

And even if you do not get to play a lot, you are getting the experience you need to become a football coach. Just think of all the cavemen that would fall flat on their faces if they are out coached by a girl, LOL. Who knows someday you might be the next 揟iger Woods?of football. It is something to think about if you love football as much as I do.

I hope I answered your question. If you want to get into coaching let me know and I will do my best to get you started.

Your friend, Louis

PS.
I want you to keep trying and to never give up your dream.
