Question
Hello,
I am a sophomore and planning to join the football team in my junior year. I will begin working out with the team this month. I am 6' 2'' 210 lbs. I want to get much faster by the summer, and also want to be much stronger. I do not have access to exercise equipment and use body weight exercises. I have not played regulation football before but am not clueless about football. I want to play linebacker or defensive end, but now I am a defensive tackle and need to add a whole lot of speed and agility. Do you have any advice on how to become faster and hit harder without exercise equipment.  Thanks so much

Answer
well frank, its alot harder to get stronger by just using your own weight. IF you can get acess to even just dumbells or a barbell that would be greatly helpful. anyhow, you can still do body weight strengthening exercises.

The basics:

Push ups( many different kinds)
sit ups
V taps
V sits
Chin ups
Dips
get creative. theres lots of things you can do or find around the house or neighborhood to subsitute for equipment. Also, to make these exercises better and more efficient, if you can find a heavy piece of equipment or sumthing, and use that as a weight, it would help build more muscle quicker.

also, to increase speed, power, and endurance, you can do a number of things.

Run stairs: the best thing i find, find a large straight set of stairs, and sprint up them, 1 stair at a time for the best speed and reaction time, 2 stair at a time for sprinting endurance, 3 stairs at a time for power. for a regular work out, do 10 up 1 stair for a warm up, then do up 10 for 1, 15 for 2, 20 for 1, 5 for 3, 5 for 2, then 10 for 1.

Sprints: do sprints as hard as you can. The shorter the distance, the more you focus on accerlation and speed. do somewhere at 50-80m. do 10 straight, with a 15 sec rest in between. then repeat once.

Suicides: do suicide sprints. Set up something to mark each interval, about 5-10 meters apart. then sprint to the 1 one, back to start, then 2nd, back to start, then 3rd, etc... do 10, with a 25 sec rest inbetween.
