Supporting a Young Basketball Player: Encouragement & Development

Question
Can you help ME.  This is my sons first year.  He is not the fastest runner on
the team.  He is a great listener and is very smart.  He is getting some time as
a guard on offense and defense.  Other first year  kids get more scrimmage
time.
The coaches really praise good plays for the  "visible" positions.  I feel my guy
will never be noticed on the line especially at this age level.  How do I
convince myself (or let you convince me) that it is normal for a first year kid
to be on the line.  What can he do to show he is capable so the coaches notice
him?
thanks

Answer
Well first off without good line play, the team will more than likely be unsuccessful.  So playing line isn't the worst thing in the world.  Second playing o-line or d-line is sometimes easier for a child with less playing experience to grasp.  If he is physical and starts knocking kids around he will most definitely be noticed by the coaches.  GOOD LUCK and hang in there!
