route running

Question
Hello,

I am a small very fast receiver.  My coach recently told me that if I could learn how to run better routes I could be one of the most productive Wide receivers in the league.  I have had a few different coaches tell me different things about route running and getting open.  Do you have any tips or drills I can do to improve before the next season?  Last year I was used mostly as a down field decoy because I was fast but I know I can be more productive than that and I want to.

Thanks, Dave

Answer
The only way to get better at running receiver routes better is by practicing them.  Learn how to position your steps so that you are as explosive out of your cuts as you can be.  Practice your timing and steps on each route.  These are things that you can practice without any other teammates.  Practice your routes daily and become a great route runner.  If you have questions on each route ask your coach how to run the route better.  GOOD LUCK COACH NOEL!
