WR Speed

Question
I am a 6'1" wide reciever/kick returner and want to know what the ideal 40 yard dash time is for NCAA Division 1 for a reciever(assuming I can block and catch). Is a 4.42 fast enough the be a kick and punt returner or do D1 teams look for  players in the 4.3's.

Answer
Patrick,

Let me assure you that 4.42 is plenty fast to be a WR/KR at that level. What is more important is how that 4.42 translates to "football speed". I have been coaching a long time and have never had a sub 4.4 time on my watch. 4.3 translates to world class speed in the 100 meters.

Guys like Deion Sanders may have run in the low 4.3's but there are not many guys out there that legitimately run that fast.
