How to be recognized...

Question
I am playing on a high school team, and we have a running back
who is very good. And I am wondering if I have any chance og being recognized because we really do not pass. I am supposedly suppose to be about 6' 5'' and I was told that, that height is an idea height for a QB. I'm just wondering if I will be recognized by a college or am I wasting my time? And if I am to stick with QB what should I work on to be recognized.

Answer
Nick,
First and foremost, if you want to play college football you can! The most important thing you do to get recognized is to get good grades and have a good GPA.  Colleges do not want players who are not academically qualified or who are poor students.  The higher your GPA the more likely you will find a team (walk-on, scholarship, etc.).  That is the first step in getting noticed.

Next you need to have solid fundamentals and a keen  ability to read defenses and "see the field".  This can be developed by drills and lots of films.  Sit down with your coach a couple hours a weeks in the off-season and work with him.  Ask him to help you get to the next level.   This is a good way to make sure your name crosses his lips when he talks with recruiters from colleges.

I would recommend going to a QB or football Camp and send highlight films to schools where you could play.
Make sure you are in great shape - strong, quick and fast; hit the weight room hard, and hit the books equally as hard.  Make sure your SAT or ACT scores are acceptable.

Try this for starters and get back to me in about a month to six weeks and let me know how things are going,  WE can reevaluate the plan at that time.
