hey my name is mike and i was just wondering if i should play high-school football....im 5'3 weighing in at barely 110 im six-teen and my dad was a high school hero he played RB and everyday i get coachs, fellow students, and some teachers coming up to me asking y im not on the team so with all that being said i was just wondering what do u think i should do to get bigger and stronger. should i even play football or just stick to wrestling and also should i play RB or another position (QB is out of the picture) thanks for the help!

Mike,
Thanks for your question.  First, do "you" want to play football?  It doesn't matter what others think you should do, it is what you want to do.  I've seen small guys play the game and big guys sit on the bench.  I've seen 5'1" guy guys play high school football who had hearts and desire the size of giants and they played the game just fine.  It is most likely too late to go out for your school's team this year, but you should talk to your school's coach or athletic director and let them know your thoughs and desires if you want to play the game.  They can help you get on a weight program or tell you how you can best fit into their football program.  DB, Kickers and holders are not always huge guys.  Don't let size deture you go out for what ever position you want.

Do what YOU WANT to do!  If you don't want to play there is no shame in that.  You stated you wrestle.  That is a great sport and it is also an olympic sport.  What ever you decided give it your best and do it for yourself, not others.  See it through to completion make a commitment to what ever you do and challenge yourself to be the best you can be.

oh yes do i want to play, ive been dieing to play! RB has been the position i really want to play, last year i would have gotten to play but i couldnt cuz of my parents they think im too small and dont wanna see me get seriously injured ya noe. as for going out for the team no it is not too late or from i heard the only thing i need to do is go to practice for 10 days then ill be able to play but because of my parents theres no way they'll let me, being that im a really small in there eyes and also ill ask my coach and athletic director about the weight program but i was just wondering if YOU had any ideas on what i should do to prepare myself

Follow up:  Mike first you need to have a heart to heart with your parents and secure their permission.  Ask you father to help you, to  help you learn to be as good a player as he was.  Next yuo must get in shape and start working on a weight program to get stronger and more powerful muscles.  What you do now will all be for next season.  Then you must learn the plays and your school's proram.  Last but not least, you must work just as hard on your school work.  If you are challenged by size you will need to be smarter and quicker that the rest of the team.

A smart player with great quickness will allow you to make up for size.
