ice hockey

Question
Dear coach Martin ,
Hello, my name is Amit Solomon, 24 years old from Israel. This is to appeal for your consideration and professional advice regarding my odds be selected by an ice hockey team in one of the collages in United States. I would like you to review my credentials in order to determine my acceptance odds and a give your recommendation to increase my chance I case it抯 not sufficient such as taking a specific boot camps etc.
Speaking about qualifications, Roller Hockey is and was always a passion for me since childhood, for at least 5 times a week! In a short period I jumped from playing at my own town to a big city, there I played for 3 years in offensive and defensive positions but mostly as defense leader and organizer of the team (We won the country junior championship 2 times in a row). In this period I was chosen to represent Israel in a national Hockey tournament that held in the Czech Republic. (Age period 13-17)
At the age of 18 I graduated high school (12th years of study), joined the army and finished my 3.5 years of service as a first staff Sargent. In that term I kept my shape, practice roller hockey and played with the city adult team on vacations.
After my service I got back to my team and we won the country Roller hockey championship (Adult) again two times in a row. Currently and in the past year I played on ice, learned a lot, coach 3 junior roller hockey teams and gave privet lessons as well, played in another international tournament (Ice hockey), but here, in Israel, there is no real way to evolve as a hockey player.
I抦 a highly responsible, dedicated, organized, commit to detail in doing a job, a team player and leader, providing motivation and training by example, Accountable and ambitious, able to remain focused in challenging situations and a fast learner.
My goal is to become a professional in the field of ice hockey. Therefor I decided to put all my efforts in order to achieve this goal of my life (Take boot camps, improve my skills, be open minded, creative etc.)
Thank you for your time and efforts of reading this letter and giving me your best advice.

Amit Solomon

Answer
Hello Amit!

Sounds like you have alot to offer ...  while I always believe that ANYTHING is possible, to be totally honest, if you are not already here in North America with some established relationships the likelihood of you getting on a pro team is going to be very, very challenging.  Over the last few years - especially with an economy that has lost alot of jobs, alot of young men have been training to join the ranks of hockey players...  and that has created alot of competition - for openings that just are not growing as fast as the number of players.

That is not to say you would not have something extra to offer.  In fact you may offer a young franchise some much needed leadership that could prove to be quite valuable!

Your best bet would be to write/contact to as many of the minor pro teams as you can - (especially newer and younger teams)...  send them your resume and a short video of some highlights of your skills during game play.  If you can throw in a couple letters of recommendation - that could help alot too!

Be patient - but be persistent.  Follow up until you get replies!  you have nothing to lose!
I believe, with persistence, you will be offered some doors that you can make into opportunities.  If you truly believe you can, can see it in your mind's eye, can own it in your heart and be THANKFUL (in advance) for it as already being your reality...  as though you HAVE IT NOW...  (I believe) YOU WILL GET IT!

There is often alot more in play than what our eyes can see...  what we THINK and BELIEVE can be literally quite creative!!

Good Luck Amit!
