Phil Housley

Question
I have been searching for information regarding the last NHL player to skate a full game, meaning: not leaving the ice for the duration of the game/skating all shifts. I was under the impression that Phil Housley was the last player to complete this task but I have no confermation of that or any facts to support that. Can you confirm that is true or not? If not who was the last player to do so? If so, where did you obtain that information?

Thank you

Answer
Hi Brian ...

Except for goalies of course, I have never heard of any NHL player playing a full 60 Minutes of a game!

I did a quick google search and found this:

Q: What is the most ice time a single NHL player has played in any one game.

A: In one sense...
...most goalies play 60 minutes in a game, sometimes more if the game goes into overtime.

However, if you think about the active players, Nicklas Lidstrom routinely logs the most ice time for Detroit at up to 25:51 per game. His average has actually been as high as 28:06 per game, placing him at number three overall. Edmonton's Chris Pronger led the NHL in time on ice.

But Penguins defenseman Ryan Whitney logged the most ice time in a single game, in Game 5 of this most recent Stanley Cup Finals, with 50:46.
