NHL or Juniors

Question
Hello, I just had a simple question. I have been playing ice hockey for 15 years now, the first team play I experienced was in 1999, my freshman year of high school.  I am now 25 years old and still playing hockey on thursday nights just with friends. I am wondering if there is any way for me to try to get to the NHL, I currently attend college but it is a tech school, therefore it has no sports programs. I am very passionate about hockey and have been since I was young. If you could help me in any way I would greatly appreciate it. I am however afraid that it may be too late for me, not sure if any NHL teams would want a 25 year old to be an NHL rookie. Thank you.

Answer
Hello Herdis.

To be totally frank - the odds while not totally impossible - they are pretty much stacked totally against you.

The NHL does hold from time to time 'scout camps' to try and find those rare gems that may have never beef scouted and have a great story.   But without the pedigree through junior and minor pro hockey - it is not likely that you will get to NHL.

That is not to say you can not try.  If you enjoy the whole process of training, trying out, marketing yourself, taking whatever steps you might need to take to get noticed - then you are a winner no matter what!!

There are open camps you can look for that allow for "walk on" type skaters - but you will have to STAND OUT immediately and then KEEP STANDING out to have even a remote chance.

You can look up some of my previous answers to find more info on semi pro camps and websites you can visit.

hope this helps!

Good Luck
