Question
Hi Guy: I have a question about skating treadmills my 9 year old son has been training on one this summer 3 times a week 30 min sessions for 6 weeks, he seems to have a  made some fairly significant improvement in his skating speed when he went on the ice for a shinny session with his teammates this week he looked much faster, before beginning training on  the skating treadmill he was  already an excellent skater. Are the improvements he has made in in his skating speed common when this type of training is incorporated or could it just be a coincidence maybe he just got stonger naturally or something like that?

             Thanks

Answer
Good Afternoon Frank,

Having also done the Frappier Acceleration Skating Treadmill for 3 years during high school, I would have to say that the results are common with this type of training. The reasoning behind this is what better way to strengthen and quicken a hockey stride, by doing the exact motion, with the same equipment, and now with true resistance and incline to increase the exact muscles used. My friends and I who all did the skating treadmill felt significant increase in not only quickness and speed on ice, but in also the power output for each stride. This is more than likely what your son is experiencing, and is great news to hear.

With that being said, being at such a young age, at this point getting older will also help increase his natural strength and only make him faster, quicker, and more powerful strides.

Hope this answers your question and if you have any other questions please feel free to ask. I am here to help. :)

Have a great day...

Guy
