Question
Right now its near the end of my season and for summer hockey Im looking to up my fitness/conditioning. Are there any tips that I can get from you that will benefit me(types,or what you recommend)? I already lift weights 2 times a week as with 1 session of treadmill for 20 minutes, as well as pylos twice a week. By the way im 20 years of age, and in pretty good shape so hit me with the best you got!
Thanks, Adam

Answer
Hi Adam

I am no fitness guru by any means...  From what you are saying and based on experience you are "doing" the right things for hockey - some weights, cardio work (bike might be easier on your knees in long run), and plyos for power and explosiveness...

The only thing I would try to do, if you can, is increase you sessions to 5 a week.   Alternate between upper body and lower body workouts on every other day.  You can "rest" any two days that work best for you --   the body needs this time to repair and expand...

The other BIG BIG KEY -- is to ENJOY your workouts...  there have been studies done that showed the STRESS created from those athletes who did not like to work out offset ALOT of the progress they would otherwise make compared to those who ENJOYED this part of the process.   If you get "stressed" doing workouts - you'd be better off PLAYING sports or do activities you like that could substitute for each...  racket sports, cycling, soccer, home building, golfing (walking), etc...

make sense?

Hope this helps!

Good Luck and HAVE FUN!
