Back after a while

Question
so ive been out of rugby for over 2 year due to a severe ankle tear which happened when i was playing at U18 now going back it will be at senior level. I have always played in the forwards. every position apart from prop. im just wondering what position u think i should focus on? im 181cm and 93kg, not the fastest, good ball handling, strong and a good tackler. also any information on inproving running speed would be appreciated

Answer
Hello Kyle, sorry for the time taken to get back to you.

The only time I get into suggesting positions is with a player I have worked with in person. I have trained with the player seen them play in person. There are many factors that I need to see in person to advise.

The key one I start with any time is to make sure the player really wants to play the position he is in. No point in working with a player who is a perfect shape and ability for prop if he doesn't want to play that position. I will work to convince a player of their potential or give them more confidence in their ability or I will move them into a different position.

Ultimately it come down to the player. If a player REALLY want to be in a position that will over come many short comings over a better player who's heart and head isn't in it.

So go with your gut and play the position that lights your fire, that you will have the most fun playing.

Unless you are intending to play serious semi-pro / pro rugby you may even find you chop and change a little as injuries occur in the team and the team dynamic becomes clear.

Focus on fitness, flexabilety and ball skills to improve your game and level of fun.

Good luck.
