coaching rugby in america

Question
QUESTION: I played rugby for a few years but because of injury i cannot play any more, i am on a coaching coarse at the moment and am assisting with children under 14 coaching. i am interested in coaching in america. do you know how i would be best going about this?

ANSWER: G'day James,

Where are you now? Coaching in America is a loose affair, there is not a professional game here compared to NZ, Aussie, Europe. Getting in touch with USA Rugby or going on line to search clubs is the way to find out who currently needs a coach. Do not expect any pay. You might get put up with a club member and maybe even get a job for beer money. If you are not American working is almost impossible without a work visa which is also hard to get.

It is fun but more like an amateur club scene so treat it like a vacation rather than work.

QUESTION: Thanks alot for that, im in England at the moment in a city called bradford. do you have any suggestions of site that might be usefull?

Answer
Hi James,

I suggest looking for an area first, I am in Newport Beach, California. I currently am associated with the Orange County Bucks but the Back Bay Sharks is an old team as well.

I would contact USA Rugby directly:

http://www.usarugby.org

Or if you know someone in the states go for their team or their local team if they don't play.

Pick your town and usually there is a local club or clubs to looks up.

Note: a club in the USA usually consists of two teams: the "A" team and the "B" Team.
