new at fly-half and almost having a nervous breakdown..lol

Question
hi i'm on a junior girl's rugby team
i've been playing wing and outside center
for the next game, my coach wants me to play fly-half.

i've seen what fly-halfs do, but because i was always
listening to THEM and told what to do, i feel confused.

i'm most concerned about making decisions-like the best positions to place the backline.. for example: in time of defence, flat or steep? or where to place the backline when a scrum is happening?
  - so basically, i need ideas about where to place the backs and when.

all i'm looking for are some tips and some must-knows.
i did read that you specialize in the "forward" section
but i am really desperate....and clueless :s

thank you :)

Answer
I suggest working with your 1st 5 to get him to set the back line, they should know, the half back's job is to distribute the ball not organize the back line so keep things simple.

Work with your # 8 on a quick pass to him, flankers too. Look to attack the opposition by looking at their position, if they are up too close, a kick up and over them is a good idea, work with your wingers on this too.

If the defense around a maul, ruck or scrum is loose go for a run. A half back must be confident and willing to test the opposition defenses.

Don't be afraid of making mistakes and go for it.

The big thing is to talk to your team a lot, give lots of direction. Pull forwards out of mauls and redirect them , YELL. If you are not vocal with your team you will suffer. Don't be afraid to make an error, just make a decision and make it 100
