1963-1964 Founding of the Portland Rugby Club

2016/7/16 9:58:05

Question
I was fresh from the University of Oregon, having played for 3 plus yrs there, and a Mr Brooks contacted me to help organize a club in the Portland  area. He contacted other people in the Northwest that  first year for games.  Having played football at Jefferson High School I recruited the players.  What ever happened to that first Club?
I would also be interested in finding out what happened to any  of those first rugby  recruits, molty lot that we were.  We recruited in the bars "a lot".
    Thats it.  Two questions.

Regards to You and I appreciate your web-site

Answer
Mr Marsh,

You would think that I would remember more of the Portland Pigs history then I do.  Most of my rugby career has been with the Northwest and I played the Pigs many times.  They used to have a really great tournament at Delta Park in the early 1990s.

Their website is very high speed, but does not really give much history.  In a nutshell, they formed in 1961.  They are still going very strong, and a force in both the local rugby union, and more importantly in the community.

Here are two website that may be useful:

The Pigs:
http://www.portlandrugby.org/

The Union:
http://www.pnrfu.com/

I have forwarded your question to the Portland team.  When I get a response I will let you know the outcome.

I embarrassed to have taken so long for so little information.
