Double Play

Question
Runners @ first and third one out.  Short fly to center caught and throw to first completes double play.  Umpire states that runner from third scores because he crossed home before completion of DP.  I contend that runner does not score.  Please confirm who is correct and cite the ASA rule as back up.  Thank you

Answer
Hi Steve,

The umpire is correct that if R1 scored before the appeal of R2 leaving early on a caught fly ball, the runs counts, even if the appeal is the 3rd out of the inning.  ASA RS 1K Tag Ups

This is NOT a force out but rather is considered a "timing" play.  I'm a little curious as to your reasoning that the run would not count.
