ASA illegal vs. non approved bat

Question
Dr.
I want to get clarification on the rules.   A Batter who comes up to the plate with a bat that is "senior league",  or without an 2000, or 2004 stamp is considered an illegal bat, and a player who comes up to bat with a bat that has been stamped 2000 or 2004 and is on the non approved list is considered a non approved bat that is an ejection?

Answer
Hi Zach,

Nope, your (or someone you talked to)premise is wrong, ANY softball bat w/out a ASA cert mark is a non-approved bat, not an illegal bat and subject to an out and ejection if the batter steps in the box w/ it.  Since there are so many bats not submitted to ASA, they obviously have no cert stamps, ASA no longer lists them, they don't have to, it is simply not approved for ASA play (banned if you will)

An illegal bat could be a ASA cert bat w/ a dent or a crack or a rattle, etc.  The penalty is just an out on that batter

You are correct an ASA stamped bat on the non-approved list is also an out and ejection.

As a sn ANY bat with a ASA cert that is not on the non-approved list is legal for ANY ASA game of softball.
