Baseball Scoring: Understanding Appeals and Run Prevention
Question
bases loaded 2 outs hr over fence runner on 3rd misses home appeal is made for out any runs score?
Answer
Thomas,
No runs would score in this situation. Anytime you have an appeal that causes a third out, runners that trailed the runner that was put out on appeal can not score.
Additionally, since the runner was forced home and then was called out on appeal you can not have a run score. Anytime a runner that was forced to advance, is put out on appeal for the third out, no runs score.
Two different parts of the appeals rules would prevent a run from scoring in this situation.
