quick pitch?

Question
I'm a pitcher in a men's slow-pitch softball league. Okay, it's a plus-45 league so I've been around. The other night the umpire accused me of quick-pitching and threatened to throw me out if I kept doing it. The batters were clearly in the batters box with the bats cocked ready to swing. What are the rules here? Is it up to the pitcher to pause a certain undefined amount of time between pitches or is it up to the batter to call time or step out of the batter's box if we thinks the pitches are coming too fast?

Answer
Hi jeff,

A quick pitch by def is a pitch made w/ the obvious attempt of catching a batter off guard.

You cannot pitch if the batter has not taken a position in the bb or is off balance.  It is an IP.

In SP all we have to do as umpires (if necessary)is put our hand up, holding up the pitcher until the batter is ready.  If you are trying to gain an advantage a good PU is going to handle this w/out tossing someone.
