Question
On a bunt attempt, do both feet have to remain in the batters box or can the front foot be outside the box as long as the back foot remains in the box at point of contact?  There was some confusion in a recent tournament regarding this. Some were arguing that only one foot needs to remain in the box.  To make matters worse, there wasn't a "batters box" drawn in the dirt to go by, but the umpire called the batter out anyway.

Answer
Hi cathy

a foot cannot be on the ground completely outside the lines when contact with the ball is made.  Any part of the foot touching any part of the line is in the box.  The foot can also be in the air.  1 foot in the box is not good enough.

With no lines the box still exists but any benefit of the doubt should go to the batter.
