3/2 rule

Question
I am a manager of a womans softball team as well as the secretary of the league that has been playing the 4/3 rule regarding the number of strikes and foul balls for many years.  We have had our own set of rules for our woman's softball association for several years.  Is there any way that our own set of rules can supercede the new 3/2 rule?  We have had many disagreements with our local parks and recreation department regarding this matter.  Your reply would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Marian,

you must remember that ASA rules are only for championship play or tournies that lead to championship play. These ASA tournaments run by the book and are optional for any ASA sanctioned team to play in.

A local league can alter ASA rules any way they want for league play just by deciding that's how they want their league to operate....4/3, 18 home runs, 6 men 4 women, 8 men 2 women, time limits, etc, etc, etc.

BTW most leagues I've umpired do not play by strict ASA rules but have an exception to them here or there, it's really no big deal.
