Understanding the Role of the Flex Player in Daily Fantasy Sports

I was reading one of the past questions from 4/16/09. He was asking about using the DP/flex player. He had 10 people in his line up. He asked how he could use switch his pitchers without taking them out of the line up. Well, my question is, does the flex player then play the field? I thought that flex players were not allowed to play defense. If that is the case - then he would only have 8 players on the field.

Hi Isaffy,

The "Flex" is listed 10th and only plays defense, they do not bat at that position.

The "DP" is 1-9 and bats for the "Flex"

The DP can also play defense for any other player listed 1-9 and that player continues to bat but not play defense.  The "Flex" and the "DP" can be on defense at the same time

The "Flex" and the "DP" can never be on offense at the same time.
