runner hit by throw

Question
Last night a call was made that I'm not certain was correct.  Here's what happened.  There was a runner on second.  The batter hit the ball (like a bunt) and the pitcher ran all the way up to home plate to field the ball, he turned and threw it to first, hitting the runner in the back, while the runner on second advanced to third.  They called the batter out because "he was inside the base line and was an interference for the play" and then made the other runner go back to second.  Was this the correct call?

Answer
Hi jenny,

If the b-r is outside the 3' lane (it can be a body part that's hit in ASA but a foot completely outside the line is needed in FED)and in the umpire's judgment interferes with the fielder taking the throw at 1st, they would be out unless the throw is coming from the foul side of 1st base.

With interference all runners return to the last base touched at the time of the interference.
Just based on your info it sounds like the correct call was made.
