Playoff Seeding: Tie-Breaking Strategies for Slow Pitch Baseball

QUESTION: Tom,

How do you break ties in the final regular season standings? We have
to determine seeding for the playoffs. We're probably going to have 2 or three
teams tie. Thanks for all your help.  Dave

I dont' do slow pitch but this question I can help with.

I run a travel ball tournament each year and this is how we do it.

Head to Head if all teams have played each other
Runs allowed, I would use the whole season
Run differential 8 Max, again I would use the whole season
Coin toss

Answer
Normally the tie-breaker rules are in place before the season starts.  The 8-run max would discourage scores from being run up in one-sided games.  I would use the differential or runs allowed from the whole season.  This would give you a better persective on who was consistantly the better team and should be seeded higher.
