Slow Pitch Softball: Umpire Signals & Illegal Pitch Height
Question
When a pitch (ASA slow pitch) is deemed less than 6 feet or more than 12 feet high, must the umpire verbally call illegal and visually signal an illegal pitch? What are the proper mechanics? I have looked for a clear rule and haven抰 had success. Might you give me the 揷hapter and verse?of this ruling? Thanks for your clarification.
Answer
Hi Ray,
yes I might....page 209 2006 umpire manual (might be a different page in 2008 manual, mine's at the office and I'm not) but the mechanic hasn't changed...always extend the left arm straight out to the side as soon as a pitch becomes illegal and state "illegal".
pretty clear cut
