runner hit by battad ball

Question
r1 on 2nd base, r2 on 1st. Line drive up the middle, bounces off pitchers' glove, then proceeds to hit r1 attempting to advance to 3rd base. Initial call from home plate umpire was dead ball, r1 out. Some discussion occurs between umpires and batting team and they decide yes, the ball did deflect off pitchers' glove, sent r1 to 3rd base, r2 to second base, and batter to 1st. I know the pitcher is not an infielder in the case of a runner getting hit by the ball after it passes an infielder, but does the fact that the pitcher touched the ball make the runner not out.

Answer
Hi Howard,

A runner that is hit by a fair batted ball after it touches or is touched by any fielder including the pitcher, is not out if they could not avoid contact with it.  8-8-f

The ball should have remained alive but once the umpire killed it their solution was the best they could do.  Sometimes we just have to live with stuff.
