Slow Pitch Strike Zone Controversy: Umpire Call Analysis

Question
I played in a slow pitch game last night and the umpire called me out "looking" of all things.  The pitch I was called out on  left a ball mark in the dirt in front of the plate--probably clipping the plate with 1/4 of the ball.  Is this even close to a strike?  I told him it hit the plate and he responded that if it hits the plate it is a strike--is there any league or rule that plays like this?
                 Thanks,  Aaron

Answer
Hi Aaron,

if it hits the plate it is a strike--is there any league or rule that plays like this?  Not that I know of, but stranger local league rules are out there.

In ASA a pitched ball that hits in front of the plate or hits the plate is a dead ball and also a ball on the batter (unless you swing at it)
