Senior Softball Rover Rules: Distance and Base Coverage Clarification
Question
Mark,
we had an umpire in our playoff game that told us that the rover can NOT play closer than 20 feet of 2nd base and was not ALLOWED to cover the base to record an out. I have never heard of this rule, since most Senior teams use the rover as a 5th infielder. Could you please clarify?
Thank-you,

Answer
Hi Coach Judy,
If you're playing ASA rules the umpire was incorrect, to clarify....just plain wrong, BIG TIME!
The only rule we have in non-coed adult slowpitch ball is that at the time of the pitch all defensive players (except the catcher of course) must be in fair territory. (Just an extra, a rover can be used in co-ed you just can't play 5 infielders).
Ask the umpire for chapter and verse of his rule.
Mark
