I have another question not a dea ball one though. In ASA softball can a runner going home run out of the thirdbase line if he does wha tis the call?

If a ball hits an outfielders glove then hits the fence and the player catches the ball off the fence. What is the ruling?

Hi again Katleyn,

A baseline is an imaginary direct line between the bases and never has anything to do with anyone being in or out of it.

A basepath is a direct line between the base and a runner's position at the time a defensive player is attempting  (or about to) a tag on the runner.

If we have no play we have no basepath and you can never be out (legitimately) for being out of something that doesn't exsist.  

If we have a play a runner can go 3' on either side of the basepath.
