Question
Dear Larry, I watched a little league games the other night Girls softball and the ball hit the gound before the batter did..she then hit it and ran to first base..would not that ball be dead if it hit he gound first?the Empire is just a hometeam dad and the coaches are too...just want to knoow offical ruling . Thanks So much Theresa Berry in rural Pennsylvania5
Answer
Hello Theresa
A pitched ball hitting or bouncing on the ground is not a dead ball. If the batter didn抰 swing at it would have been simply called a ball, if the batter swung and missed it would have been a called a strike, so hitting a ball that bounced is treated like any ball hit into play.
