Slap hit - double touch

Question
Situation: 10U ASA fastpitch game in which the batter attempted a slap hit.  Ball lands in field of play and batter drops bat within field of play very slightly grazing the ball (ball did not move foul).  Home ump rules dead ball strike.  Batting team's coaches argue that rules allow double touch as long as incidental.  Two questions:  Was the ruling correct?  Would the ruling be different if it was a bunt attempt versus a slap attempt?  Thank you.

Answer
Hi Michael,

Neither of the 2 would be correct

If THE BAT dropped or thrown hit the ball in fair territory we have a dead ball, batter out.

If THE BALL hit the bat on the ground we would have in this case a fair ball (since it did not roll foul) and we simply play on.

It does not matter if it was swing, bunt or slap.
