Bunt Coverage Strategies: 1st & 3rd Base Situations
Question
I am trying to determine what is the best coverage on bunts for a 1st and 3rd situation. Would I better of running the player back to 3rd or getting the out at 1st then trying to throw the runner out at home?
Answer
My general rule was if we got the ball quick - look the runner on third back and go the first for the sure out, then back home if necessary or make the play at home if the runner is going all the way.
Otherwise if we are slow getting the ball or if the ball is mishandled get the out at first (as long as it wasn't a do or die situation if a run scores).
