Scoring Question - Softball

2016/7/15 17:01:22

Question
A line shot is hit to right field that never gets above eight feet off the ground. It is about 6 p.m. with a low sun in the right fielders face. She never sees the ball and it hits her in the face knocking her down. What is the proper way to score this? Thankfully other than a huge black eye she was not seriously hurt.

Answer
I would score it as a hit.

Ask yourself should the play have been made with normal effort?  To pick the ball up out of the sun as you describe sounds like extraordinary effort.  Additionally, always give the benefit of the doubt to the batter.
