HOMERUN OR NOT

2016/7/15 17:17:32

Question
In a Georgia high school game. A girl hits the ball to centerfield. The centerfielder catches the ball and squeezes her glove and the ball pops up and goes over the fence. The umpire behind the plate holds up four fingers. Our coach calls it a homerun. A coach in the stands says not it is a four base error. What is the correct answer and how should it be scored.
Thank you,

Answer
Hi Tracy,

It's not a hr but rather it is a "4 base award" which is why the PU held up 4 fingers.

In games that have hr limits this would not count towards that total.

It can also be an error or not, it depends on the play and what the scorer saw.
