batter moving out of batters box

Question
If a pitch has been pitched and the catcher lose the ball and a runner is running from second to thrid base. Is the batter required to get out of the batters box and out of the way of the play?

Answer
Hi Sarah,

As you know interference is the act of an offensive player that impedes, hinders or confuses a defensive player attempting to make a play.

The batter's box is not a sanctuary but neither can the batter simply disappear.  They are required not to impede, ect the defensive player.

This is the umpire's judgement but by staying in the box in this situation you can certainly have interference.  If I was the batter most of the time I would get the heck out of there (depending on where the ball and the catcher were going)
