Answer
Good evening Tessa.

Thank you for visiting www.allexperts.com.  But I'm sorry to say, when you and your parents read my answer to your question, I won't sound much like an expert.

I have no idea if you will make the team or not.  There are so so so many things.

a)  How old are you?  If you're 6th grade you have more chance than if you're 10th.  In other words, the younger you are, the more your lack of spiking and server will be accepted.

b) How many girls are returning from last year?  In other words, how many open spots are there?  The more spots available, the more chance you have!

c) How many girls will there be at tryouts?  The fewer there are, the easier it will be to make the team.

d) How many girls will the coach keep on the team?  If she keeps a lot of kids (15 to 20), then you a better chance of making the team.

e) How good is the team?  If they won 15 and lost 5, then that team will harder to make than the team that was 5 win and 15 losses.

f) Do you have a great attitude and will be OK with little or no playing time?  If so, you increase your chances of making the team.

g) Does the coach know you?  If so, that's a good thing.  If not, introduce yourself to her before tryouts start.  And say bye to her before you leave, then say hi again on the 2nd day, etc.  If she knows you, and thinks you're nice, that'll help make the team.

h)  Does the coach know your game?  In other words, has she seen you at open gyms, at camps, at tournaments?  If she knows your game, then that's a plus!!

i)  Do you play a position that a very few kids play?  Like, do you set?  or are you a good libero?  If so, then you have a better chance of making the team.

See?  There are probably a dozen more.
If you want to send me more info, that's fine.......but I'm afraid that I still won't sound much more like an expert.  :(
