volleyball offseason

Question
I am a junior high volleyball coach. I am trying to do some drills with the girls during offseason. We have limited resources and no balls or nets are used during the offseason. I am wanting to do some drills with them that would increase their jumping skills along with their hitting techniques. I have shorter heavier girls that need very basic training on technique. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer
Lindy,

Without any balls or without a net you are in an impossible position.

For jumping you should do some plyometric exercises.  Look them up on the internet, some sites will give you pictures and a better description than I can.  As far as technique goes you can do approaches without a ball as well as blocking drills.  Put a rope up across two poles, trees or boards at 7' 4" and use that to simulate the net.  You can even throw tennis balls over the net while doing approaches to simulate the arm swing and contact.

Good luck because you do have a very challenging off season.
