J. S. Sharpe Bamboo Fly Rod

Question
I am looking for the value of a 9'-0", 2 piece(equal length)with no spare tip bamboo fly rod made by J S Sharpe of Aberdeen, Scotland. Markings are: "The Scottie", Impregnated. On reel seat part of the handle is stamped 3 852. Feels like a 6 weight. Rod finish is very good. Cork handle is in good condition. It has the original rod sack with J.S. Sharpe label. I appreciate your help! Thanks, J.

Answer
John,
I have a Scottie 10 ft on my bench for ferrule repair and restoration. I like them -
They are not in my usual field of vision. They are English sold at Farlows of London and Scotland.
I usually see US rods - mostly western 20th century

Price Book:
Antique & Collectible  Fishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 (2nd edition 2000) add about 30% for age of book.

Homel has 4 fly rods from Sharpe, all Scottie models of various  lengths. The impregnated are a little less value which coincides with my experience.
Homel gives the J. S. Sharpe 8  model "Scottie" fly rod 8 1/2'  with no extra tip, 2 sections the  value of  $40, 130 and $210 for poor, good, excellent condition respectively. Since the book is old and your rod is longer , it's a push and I would guess those figures are pretty close.

Luck,
Mac
