Fly Tying Wool: Types & Uses for Egg and Streamer Patterns

Question
what kind of wool is use for fishing

Answer
Hi Dave,

I am guessing that you are talking about fly tying materials.  I think that most of the wool used for egg imitations is regular old sheep wool.  You buy it by the square.  Most people now use synthetics like Glo-Bug yarn.  The colors are more vivid.  For big streamers they sell the longer Icelandic sheep hair that is great for 6"+ long streamers.

Where the fly tying material suppliers get this stuff, I don't know.

I hope that answers your question.

Good fishing,

Marc
